Alone in the Yard
Buddhist, Beat and Otherwise
by Leo Racicot

Excerpts
Deluge
My cottage was washed away
by 50 days of endless rain,
and I cried to God, "Why!"
And God cried back,
"But see, little bones,
the desert has never bloomed
so beautifully before."
Jack Says
How masterfully they swam
the swans not offset by winter's coming.
I tried climbing up on their backs
but my footing was faulty
and the rider in me was tired.
I let them go.
Jack says, “Paradise comes to everybody anyway.”
Snow or no snow, sailing forward or standing still
“Paradise comes to everybody anyway.”
Someone Tells Me
Where are you?
I have looked for you
in the letters you send
in the ribbons you tie on packages
at Christmas,
in the silence I hear
on the other end of the phone
when we are talking.
But I don’t find you there
and someone tells me
you have died.
