Reviews

"Steve Kissing’s Survival of the Fittest turns Darwin’s phrase on its head, exploring the rather unnatural rituals of family camping. Hilarious, poignant, exquisitely sharp, Kissing’s poems are as bright as flashlights, as scorching as campfires. In poem after poem, he embraces the thorny contradictions of postmodern life with a fierce and generous spirit."
~ Denise Duhamel, author of Ka-Ching!, Two and Two, and Mille et un Sentiments

"Steve Kissing has deftly transferred the tenderness, quirkiness and exasperations of outdoor experiences into an enjoyable group of narratives and short poems; words that are well worth taking on a short hike."
~ Steve Meador, author of Pack Your Bags, A Good Sharp Knife, and Throwing Percy from the Cherry Tree

"Survival of the Fittest should be required reading material for any outdoor trip, including those that might involve curious daughters, forgotten bug spray, shifting boulders and potential terrorists. Kissing evokes a childlike bewilderment and respect for nature with honest, reflective poems that could inspire even the most adamant city dweller to temporarily abandon 'the place where everyone compromises.'"
~ Katie Kowalski, Tipton Poetry Review
